On October 23, 2017, the Hawaiian Electric Companies filed with the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission (PUC) several draft Request for Proposals (RFPs) for renewable generation to serve the islands of Oahu, Maui and Hawaii (aka “Big Island”). The filing is in two volumes, totaling 976 pages. The filings were made in the recently opened Docket No. 2017-0352.
The RFPs are based on the Hawaiian Electric Companies’ Power Supply Improvement Plan (“PSIP”) filed with the PUC on December 23, 2016, and approved by the PUC on July 14, 2017 in PUC Docket No. 2014-0183. The quantities to be requested in the RFPs reflect the PSIP 5-year (2017-2021) Action Plans, plus the resources identified by the PSIP that would enter service in 2022.
